Two mornings after Hurricane Ike, I am doing photography in my neighborhood in northwest Houston. I see a woman carrying a pet rabbit.

I ask whether I can take her picture with her pet rabbit.

She lets me take her rabbit's picture but not hers.

I respectfully concur.

She tells me, "I do not have any money left, and no food". "I will give you money", as I reach for my wallet. "No, I do not need money. I am right now going to the church where they are giving food".

Please help, as lot of people are hurting due to Hurricane Ike.

A Sufi dargah (a religious cemetery of a Sufi saint where people worship) on IIT Roorkee campus, Roorkee, India. Sufism in India was an ascetic, mystical, Islamic religious movement traveling with central Asian invasions from 12th century onwards, and that would combine some of the Islam, and Bhakti Hinduism traditions, and that to this day finds devotees from many different religions across India. It would also later influence the teachings of Sikhism. People make offerings, and prayers at Sufi dargahs.

Sufism as a whole has a larger, and longer history beyond India, and started in present-day Iraq, and covers vast part of Middle East, and Asia.

The Monsoon Series

I was in India for about 11 days in early July, and tried my best to capture the power of monsoons in India. Initially, I just wanted to take pictures of rain, but then I switched my gears, and took all kind of pictures. What you will see is the effect of monsoon everywhere - the lush wild greenery, wet streets, and a sense of relief from Indian summer, and maybe, smile on everyone's face.

School kids on rickshaw early morning in July. Life of a rickshaw wallah is very tough, but hopefully, monsoons gives him some respite.

I will take months to build my series, mostly on flickr, and selected ones on my blog here.
