On several occasions, I have talked about the Kashmir earthquake, both in terms of short-term emergency and long-term risk mitigation. Let us please keep our focus on millions whose lives are in grave risk in coming months. Often, we tend to forget the plight of people in disasters after the cameras and media have moved on to another story. According to BBC:
- 1.2 million people face not having enough blankets of quilts to protect them from the cold.
- There is a shortfall of 170,000 high quality plastic sheets needed to improve protection from rain and snow in tents not designed to withstand the cold.
- Some 200,000 tarpaulins are needed for ground insulation in such 'unwinterised' tents.
